Which is why most self employed people in my area use old cheapy computers to do there work on.

I can understand that. I keep thinking about buying a really cheap netbook (Acer?) for mobile use so it's almost a throw-away price. No more expensive than my camera. A thing I can almost afford to lose or at least take the risk of leaving in my hotel bedroom. Some of them look really good too.

To me that is the REAL problem with Apples pricey mobile kit. I couldn't afford to lose it on a regular basis. Gonk If the iTablet comes in at e.g. a thousand dollars - almost a thousand pounds, I'd have to think very hard about just how I'd look after it on the move before buying.

Well, we should have the announcement today.
Nothing so far on the Apple site, but I guess the Yanks are still sleeping. Wink
I think the Apple event starts at 1pm Eastern Time, so just a few hours to go.

Well, you posted at 6:30 AM my time, so I was just getting out of bed. In California, it would have been 5 or 4. They are at least one hour behind us.

Still nothing. It's early morning in California. Probably won't happen until afternoon time, I imagine.

Very nice.
I might actually get one, although I think I'll wait a year until the #2 model when Apple has doubled the specs, sorted the software, solved the inevitable battery problems etc.

Not sure about three memory sizes. 64Gb isn't massive for storing films. Making two models with less, 16Gb, 32Gb, strikes me as a waste of time as they will probably need a separate production system for each. I'll bet the memory isn't easily upgradeable in such a compact device so you have what you start with.

If I'm thinking of an iPad as a mobile camera back-up, I took 6.8Gb of clips in three days at last year's steam fair, the first time I took my new digital camera out. So for a three week holiday taking lots of pictures and movies in cactus country, it could be a bit tight.

I wish they had thought to use the back for solar cells to trickle charge the battery. I hope the 30 pin plug for charging and everything else is robust. Rolling Eyes You wouldn't want to bend a pin on the move.

I already have mine staked out for next christmas. I do a hell of alot o reading on the iPod so this is a natural progression. Plus Apple fans know stay away from first releases it usually has some issues to be worked out. I love the features just not to crazy about the name. MS fanboys are going to have a feild day with the iPad name.

•Tampax will have to come up with a new name for its upcoming line of revolutionary feminine hygiene products.

•iPod Touch owners will be able to brag that they own an “iPad Mini.” **

I almost replied to that thread, but decided not to. That whole newsgroup is full of high school students who just squabble about pointless stuff all day.

And yet people like us go there :P

I found its pointless to argue with them or anyone else with that mind set. Just gets you pissed and your post deleted. Let them say what they will. Just like the iPhone and iPod it will have many scrambling to copy it poorly anyway. Just Steve you did not make life easy for us with that name LOL
Sorry for any mistakes broken hand and brace makes for really crappy typing.

Yeah the name took me by surprise. I was expecting either iSlate or iTablet.

Sorry to hear about the hand. A few years ago I sprained my right hand/wrist and had a devil of a time with the mouse for a week or two.

Knowing jobs it may be this is what he wants. To get everyone to talk about it and then shove it ups ome fanboys &$$ that he could name it what ever and it will still sell because it is that good. Somehow I just can see him playing that up to get as much as he can from it.

Thanks I had this since Dec 28th. Just never realized I broke it till last week when I went to the Drs. I thought I just sprained it till I saw stars when working out two weeks ago. Until now it has been limiting what I do on the web to point and click stuff and writing short blog posts.Well got to go. Be around more often again Smile

Well, my first thought was that it's too close to iPod.
Hardly any audible difference unless you speak clearly and allowing for different accents, huge room for confusion. As to intellectual property of Microsoft (iPad.exe) or Cognium Systems who make this application: http://www.ipadeln.com/index.html
one has to assume hope the lawyers already looked into it. Shifty Eyes
