On juli 1 a newly developed web-browser for the classic OS9 came available:
Classilla is a free, open source browser for Mac OS 9*
Classilla is bringing back web browser support to your classic Macintosh -- built on WaMCom, a port of Mozilla to classic Macintosh systems, using the same technology underpinning the popular Firefox browser. It's completely free and it's open source, and it's standards-compliant. Use it without cost or restriction; or, if you've got the skills, hack it and make it your own. Classilla brings your wonderful old Power Macintoshes back to life and back online.
Wonder if I could get it to work inside Sheep Shaver ... not because I need to, just for the hell of it. _________________ .

Well, there have been some reports on the Google forum for Classilla of Flash working. But I'm not entirely sure how to go about it. I'll be looking for instructions, however!
It loads new pages really, really well. Java is disabled by default because it can be crashy, but otherwise it works great. And, frankly, you can turn on Java and not crash TOO many pages.
Got it to run in Sheep Shaver (OS 8.6) without fuss.
Connecting to the outside world is another matter. I need to boot up my OS 9 machine and study the settings. _________________ .

I'm slightly jealous of you people running Sheep Shaver. I've had it for months and it always crashes on my Intel Mac mini-- I've never gotten the emulated Mac to boot. _________________ Moof!
We've also got a really busy forum dedicated only to SheepShaver. You can do it! It's fun and easy...
Cactus,
If you are using SheepShaver in OS X, getting online is really easy. Just a couple of clicks. Scroll all the way down to the bottom for the (one line) instructions:
Ah, you know what? I've had an old version of SheepShaver and I never upgraded it. I think that's what the problem is. I looked at the web site and it had some newer stuff on it. _________________ Moof!
I too had a lot of problems with SheepShaver crashing until I went through the documentation mentioned by WatchSmart. The instructions on the SheepShaver site didn't do it for me. _________________ .

The SheepShaver site is out of date. The documentation there isn't all that great, and actually the version of SheepShaver available there has a lot of serious bugs. I'd recommend NOT using it.
The developer stopped working on it some years ago
People on the E-Maculation site have been improving it for the last couple of years. The most recent version is right here:
Splendid ! I've just downloaded the latest version.
Can't believe how small it is.
Good to have a manual on my own machine for reference.
I wish I had an open version of OS9.
The only non-machine specific OS in my collection is OS 8.6 although that was quite a nice incarnation of the Mac OS in its day. _________________ .

I like 8.6 a lot. That's what I use, exclusively, in SheepShaver. Does the trick for me!
I think that OS user interface design has gotten progressively worse over the years. Mac OS 9 is nicer than Mac OS X. But System 7 is better than Mac OS 9.
XP is better than Vista. But 2000 is better than XP.
