 | Login Issues | |
Why can't I log in? Have you registered? You must register in order to log in. Have you been banned from Mac GUI City? (A message will be displayed if you have.) If so, you should contact the webmaster or administrator to find out why. If you have registered and are not banned and you still cannot log in then check and double-check your username and password. Usually this is the problem; if not, contact the board administrator -- go to the main Info Booth page to find contact details. Back to top |

How do I prevent my username from appearing in the online user listings? In your profile you will find an option Hide your online status; if you switch this on you'll only appear to administrators or to yourself. You will be counted as a hidden user. Back to top |

I've lost my password! Don't panic! While your password cannot be retrieved it can be reset. To do this go to the login page and click I've forgotten my password. Follow the instructions and you should be back online in no time. Back to top |

I registered but cannot log in! First check that you are entering the correct username and password. If they are okay then maybe your account needs activating. Sometimes the system will require all new registrations be activated, either by yourself or by the administrator before you can log on. When you registered it would have told you whether activation was required. If you were sent an email then follow the instructions; if you did not receive the email then check that your email address is valid. One reason activation is used is to reduce the possibility of rogue users abusing the board anonymously. If you are sure the email address you used is valid then try contacting the administrator. I registered in the past but cannot log in anymore! The most likely reasons for this are: you entered an incorrect username or password (check the email you were sent when you first registered) or the administrator has deleted your account for some reason. If it is the latter case then perhaps you did not post anything? It is usual for boards to periodically remove users who have not posted anything so as to reduce the size of the database. Try registering again and get involved in discussions. Back to top |

Why do I get logged off automatically? If you do not check the Extended Login box when you log in, the system will only keep you logged in for about an hour. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box during login. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university cluster, etc. Back to top |

I didn't receive my activation email Are you sure? It may have been mistakenly marked as spam or junk mail. Try checking for it in your email account's spam folder. If you are absolutely sure you did not get your activation email, go here: http://macgui.com/account/resend/
If you didn't get your activation email, enter your member name and the email address you registered with, and you'll be sent another. Back to top |

Why do I need to register at all? Registration will give you access to additional features not available to guest users such as definable avatar images, private messaging, emailing to fellow users, suburb subscription, etc. It only takes a few minutes to register so it is recommended you do so. How do I register? To sign up for Mac GUI City, just follow the instructions for new users on the sign-in page.
During registration, you'll be asked to choose a Mac GUI City Username and pick a password.
Please Note: Your Mac GUI City Username cannot contain special characters or spaces. After you've signed up, you can use this same Username and password for all of Mac GUI City's services. Back to top |

Choosing a Member Name and Password Both of these are very important! A Member name is what others on Mac GUI will identify you with. It will appear on everything you do within the community. Your member name may be your real name or a made up "handle". Either way, it must be appropriate and meaningful. It can't be changed later and will be used as your email address and web site URL.
A password protects your account. Make sure your password is at least 6 characters long and is not an English word. Try using characters in different cases, numbers, and symbols to create a complex password such as M@c6u1!R
You may change your password whenever you wish. If you are concerned about security, you may want to change your password every month. You should also use a unique password for every site you visit.
Don't forget that your FTP password, email password, and main Mac GUI account password are all the same. Back to top |
 |
Can I create multiple accounts? You can create multiple accounts if you so choose.
One account is sufficient for use throughout the entire Mac GUI City network, so we
do not recommend creating multiple accounts because of the difficulties
associated with maintaining multiple Usernames and passwords. Back to top |
