City Tour
First of all, congratulations on successfully registering
for Citizenship at Mac GUI City! Everyone who participates here
matters, including you. This tour is designed to be relatively short,
yet still give useful information about the City.
Part 1: The Town Square
The Town Square is where everyone starts out in Mac GUI City. Every
building on the Town Square is logically named and contains the
sort of information, services, or features you might expect from
similarly-named buildings in a real city.
Here is a brief description of each building, in clockwise order:
|
1.) Computer Center
A comprehensive source for Mac information and services
2.) Newsstand
Includes newspapers and magazines, and discussion boards.
3.) Community Center
The headquarters for live interaction: forums, chat, auditoriums.
4.) Info Booth
The central location for help and general information about
Mac GUI City.
|
5.) eMail Center
Where you go to send and retrieve electronic mail.
6.) Suburbs
Though technically not a building, this leads you to the user-run
forums of Mac GUI City which can cover any topic.
7.) Arts & Leisure Plaza
Contains a virtual movie theater, blogs, gallery, and arcade
games.
8.) Marketplace
Offers one-stop shopping for products and services.
|
To get to any of these buildings, simply click on it, and you will
be taken inside the building where you can then choose where to
next (Note that the small Town Square map shown above is merely
for example and cannot be clicked).
Part 2: Currency, Messages, and Preferences
Mac GUI City has its own currency called @pples.
Pronounced like the fruit, @pples can be earned and spent in a variety
of ways; just about everything you do on Mac GUI City will grant
you @pples, which in turn can be spent on fun items, exchanged with
fellow Citizens, and put to use in other areas such as the Suburbs.
Private Messages (sometimes called just Messages, or PM's for short)
allow you to communicate with other Citizens in private, similar to email, only better because
you can tell when the recipient has had a chance to read your messages.
The Preferences page serves two purposes: a control panel to change
site options to your liking (such as your email address), and as
a place to update your profile.
Part 3: City Hot-Spots (or, places you should check out!)
The following is a list of some pretty cool areas of Mac GUI City
which may interest you.
| 1.) Mac
GUI Theater - in the Arts & Leisure Plaza
If
you have a bunch of favorite videos on YouTube or other similar
sites, you can put them all into a playlist and watch them
with your friends-- a chat box makes it like a virtual cinema
or living room.
|
2.) Mac
GUI Forums - in the Community Center
The
forums are one of the most active places in the City, where
Citizens come to discuss many subjects. Meet and make friends while talking about movies, games, or just random stuff.
|
3.) Mac
GUI Gallery - in the Arts & Leisure Plaza
Are
you a shutter-bug? If so, then the Gallery is the perfect
place for you to upload and share your photos with others.
You can also receive ratings and feedback from the community
on what they think about your photo or artwork.
|
4.) Mac
GUI Downloads - in the Computer Center
If
you're a Mac user, you've come to the right place! There are
loads of files for customizing the look of your Mac, such
as themes, icons, desktops, widgets, utilities and
much more. You can spend hours giving your Mac its own personal
touch.
|
Part 4: End of the Tour
This is where the Tour ends (see, it wasn't too long!). Remember,
the Info Booth is the source of information about Mac GUI City,
including getting help. There is also a Help link in the top-right
hand corner of every page; clicking it will provide you with
a page which has specific information.
Have fun!
